Lily stood up immediately with her friends when the feast ended, making their way up to the dormitories. She didn't even notice Snape in the corner, too full and in quite a good mood to care. She pushed a hand through her hair gently as she walked up the staircase, looking around, glad to be back at Hogwarts, glad to be finally home.

James came back from breakfast and jumped on Peters bed, since he had yet to get up. "Class is in ten minutes. You missed breakfast" James announced, jumping up and down, and eventually off the bed. Once Peter was up, James went back to the common room in a rather good mood now that it was the first official day of school. He grabbed his books, not that he'd need them. James was naturally brilliant. He didn't need studying or even classes, really, but he went regardless. After getting Amber to tie his tie, because there were two things James couldn't do: tie and impress Lily Evans, he waited for the others and barged into the hall full of first years trying to figure out where they were supposed to be. "I'm off to potions. See you at lunch." He said, slapping Sirius on the back and ruffling his own hair before heading off.
Severus walked slowly to potions, and considered leaving when he spotted Potter, but couldn't give him the satisfaction, so he walked in and sat down silently while James told everyone already in the room about some ridiculous thing that happened to him, even though Severus was sure it was a lie.
Laila made her way to Muggle Studies, a book in her hand. She'd gotten rather good at walking and reading through the years of being alone all the time. When she made it to her classroom, she sat, put her things on the desk in front of her and hesitantly closed her book.
After tying James tie, Amber headed to Charms, her least favorite class, just to avoid having to deal with the boys that early in the morning.

Lily grabbed her books after getting ready, her red hair looking perfect for a change. She sighed softly, making her way down to potions, walking in quietly and taking a seat in one of the corners, as far away from Severus as possible.

James smiled to himself when his story was finished and everyone around him asked him questions, wanting to know more. He answered a few before he finally noticed that Evans was in the room, and felt in his pocket before slowly making his way over to her and laying a ribbon on her desk. "I found it in one of my textbooks. A built in bookmark or something." He explained, flipping it over to show the Lily on the other side. "It's a little too girly for me. Not to mention I thought of you when I saw it." He added. He felt eyes burning and hole in him and turned to look at the crowd he'd just left but if they realized he was talking to her, they were showing no sign of it. It was Snivelus glaring at him. The glare almost sent a shiver down his spine. It was more than hatred. It almost seemed like a threat. He wasn't afraid, of course. Nothing frightened James Potter. But he wasn't about to smirk at him like usual, to make it worse. Snape was into some pretty dark stuff. Slughorn finally entered the room, and James flashed Lily a small smile before heading to his seat beside someone he knew pretty well. Mcgonagal was careful not to put the marauders in classes together. One of them was enough distraction to the rest of the class. Two would most likely cause chaos.
When the class started, Laila half listened to the professor about the expectations of them this year. The more boring it got, the further away Laila drifted. She started at the window just above the professors head dreamily, until the word partner was mentioned, bringing her out of the daze and into misery. Partners never turned out well. Atleast she wasn't expected to pick her partner though. Those times were the worst, because she'd be stuck with who ever else couldn't get a partner while everyone else was with their friends. The professor explained the ten page report they were to right before teaming them up. It took all Laila had not to groan when her name was called along wih one of James and Sirius' friends. She'd never heard of Remus being rude, though, so maybe it wouldn't be completely terrible. She turned to give him a quick, sweet smile, because he probably had no idea which face belonged to the name he'd been partnered with, and quickly turned back to the Professors explanation.

Lily looked up when James walked over, a small blush rising to her cheeks, which she quickly hid by looking down at the ribbon. She bit her lip as he explained why he'd given it to her, looking back up at him when she was sure the blush had gone. "Thanks." She said softly, watching as he turned, seeing him looking at Snape, who was giving him a death glare. She frowned slightly, pulling her hand through her hair before looking back up at Potter when Slughorn walked into the room. She smiled back at him softly before turning back to her table, picking up the ribbon, placing it in the front of her text book.

James opened his book to the page Slughorn assigned for them to read. It was just a bunch of nonsense about what potions six years should know before they entered a potions class. He skimmed through the list, making sure he was familiar with them all, and leaned back in his seat, uncaring now that most other people in the class had worried looks on their faces. A girl to the right of him even shed a tear, mumbling something about failing the class. Slughorn seemed to just notice that Evans was in the room, because he smiled brightly, boasting about the fact that she knew how to do potions even more complicated than these, rambling on about how glad he was that she was in his first class of the day. James bit back a smile before turning with the rest of the class to look at Lily, expecting to witness another one of her adorable blushes.
Laila spent the next five minutes of the explanation trying to stay in a happy place. She didn't like to be in a bad, or upset mood, so she tried her best not to dread the assignment that would apparently be homework. Even better. She had to work with him after class. When his friends would probably be around. Did Sirius and James ever go to the library? Hopefully not. When he was finished, the professor gave them a few minutes to speak to each other. She wasted the first three minutes by working herself up to it, and then finally stood up cautiously and walked the short distance to Remus' desk. "Laila." She introduced shortly, "We can work whenever you're free." She added, then, after considering that her life might be helpful to the assignement, went ahead and decided to tell him about her traitorous (or, traitors as far as Slytherins saw it) parents, who she rarely talked about. "I live in the muggle world, so this should be easy."

Lily scanned over the list, a small smile on her face. She was glad she was good at potions, she glanced up when she heard her name coming from Slughorn's mouth, biting her lip nervously. She could feel a blush rising to her cheeks as he spoke about her, glancing around as the class turned. She smiled lightly at Slughorn, catching Potter's gaze for a second before looking back down at the list in front of her, trying to hide the darkness of her cheeks.

James' stomach flipped when his eyes met Lily's. Her blush was just as cute as it had been earlier, but it was pretty obvious that she was uncomfortable and Slughorn continued his boasting. After scanning his mind for how to help her, he took a deep breath, leaned back even further in his chair, and braced himself as the chair fell backwards, taking him with it. He laughed, as if it wasn't embarassing at all, and stood back up, fixing the chair. "Don't mind me. None of you even saw that." He said over the classes laughs. His back hurt slightly, but the attention wasn't on Lily anymore, so he'd succeeded. "Continue, sir." He said politely, taking his seat and entwining his fingers on the desk. Slughorn was finishin his own laugh when he nodded, going on about what they should do if they didn't know how to make one of the potions on the page.
Laila hesitated, furrowing her eyebrows slightly before taking the seat. Her lack of socail interaction caused her brain to go fuzzy, and she had no idea what to say or do. She bit her lip and glanced around for a moment before noticing his book and smiling, relieved. Books she knew. She carefully lifted it to see the front before smiling even wider. "Good one" she said simply, quickly taking her hand away, incase he didn't want her touching his things.

Lily smiled softly as James fell from his seat, silently thanking him and looking back down at her book. She flicked through a few pages, a small sigh escaping her lips as she read down through the potions they would be making. She glanced back towards Potter, a small, shy smile on her face. She pushed a hand gently through her hair before turning her attention back to her book.

James caught Lily's smile at the last minute, and his whole day was brightened. He didn't plan on letting her know that he had knocked his chair over for her, but she seemed to realize it without him telling her, and once again, he felt like they might be getting somewhere beyond enemies. And he couldn't wait to tell his friends. They'd barely even spoken yet, but he was apparently doing something right, judging by the many smiled he'd gotten from her. He shook his head when Slughorn assigned homework on the first day, but they were allowed to start on it in class anyways, so he began the paper on what each potion on the list should be like when it was finished, and didn't open his book once like the poor whiny girl next to him, who he helped a few times. He picked a random potion off of the list and turned in his seat to Lily. "Do you by any chance remember what color the invisibility potion is supposed to be?" He asked innocently, already fully aware of the answer, but needing an excuse to look/talk to her.
Laila lifted her own book up "I've read it five times. Not including this time. It's my favorite." She said, quite proud of herself for putting a whole thought together and then getting it out of her mouth. "Books are nice. It's good to forget who are sometimes and become someone in a book." She added randomly, staring off into space now.

Lily sighed when Slughorn assigned homework. She got started on it quickly, wanting to get it finished now, so she didn't have to do it later. She turned when she felt eyes on her, seeing James just as he started speaking. She nodded softly, saying the color before turning back to her parchment, tucking her hair behind her ear as she continued writing down an explaination of each potion.

When class was dismissed, James turned the homework paper in, recieveing his pat on the back from Slughorn, and turned to leave and head back to the common room for his free period. But he didn't leave quick enough to miss Snape slipping a letter of sorts into one of Lily's text books when she wasn't looking. Really? Was he ever going to give up? James decided she could handle whatever it was, though, and continued on his way.
Severus had worked on his long, heart felt, apologetic letter through the entire class, and fled from the room once he had succeeded in slipping it into one of her books. It was his last hope. She wouldn't believe how sorry he was when he said it out loud, and wouldn't listen when he tried to tell her anyways, so hopefully she would atleast read the letter. Because he was sorry. And he missed her very much. And he felt awful for what had accidentally escaped his mouth during in a terrible time.
Laila gathered her things once she was snapped out of her day dream by the teachers dismissal. "I'll go put my things away and meet you in the library" She said politely to Remus before hurrying off to the Slytherin girls dormitories and dropping her books on her bed quickly to get out of there before a certain group of awful girls who loved to bother her showed up, and continued on to the library.

Lily sighed softly, handing in her paper to Slughorn, grabbing her books from her desk quickly before he could praise her anymore, sending him a short smile before quickly leaving the classroom, heading up to the Gryffindor common room where she could meet up with her friends. She sighed softly as she walked, tucking her hair behind her ears, not really paying much attention where she was going, she knew her way around the castle well enough now not to really pay attention when she was walking.

Peter was loyally waiting for James in the common room and as much as James wanted to immediately spill his guts about everything that had happened with Lily, there were a lot of other people in the common room who could hear. So he greeted him casually and Peter, ashamed, set his homework on the table in front of one of the armchairs that was pretty much reserved for the marauders. The four in front of the fireplace had been considered theirs for a long time, and other people rarely sat in them. As a joke in his thrid year, because the braver souls would use the old line 'It's yours? I don't see your names on it,' James flipped every chair over to write the boys' names on the bottom of them. James looked at the homework, then Peter. "It's really confusing." Peter said innocently. And James crumbled, smiling before pulling the paper over to him to do his self. Rule breaking? Yes. But he was doing it for a friend. James had been doing Peters homework for years, and only got caught twice. He couldn't let him do badly in school, afterall. And Peter wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.
Laila finally made it to the library, taking in the scent of the room full of books, before setting her things down and joining Remus. "Sorry it took so long." She apologized, even though it had taken no time at all. "Do you have any pets?" She asked, not acknowledging were the comment had come from, or how her train of thought had lead her there, as she also searched for useful books.

Sirius strolled into the common room a few minutes after James, smirking as he saw him doing Peter's homework. He flopped down on 'his' chair, pushing a hand through his hair, pulling his homework out. Well, may as well try to start the year well. He sighed lightly, making a start on the homework.

When Sirius joined them, it took all that James had not to tell his best friend everything as soon as he saw him. He just continued on Peter's homework, instead. As time went by and others hurried off to their classes, since all of them obviously did not have free period together, James glanced Lily's way to make sure she wasn't paying attention before starting in the lowest whisper he could manage. Not even looking at the other two, to be discreet. "Things with Evans are going great." He said, continuing to scribble answers onto Peters parchment. "I think we might even be...well, almost friends." He added.
"I have an owl, but it's not so common to have an owl in the muggle world, so she stays with my aunt until the school year comes around." Laila explained. "We've got a lot of animals at home, though. My dad owns a zoo. It's a place where muggles go to see all sorts of animals." She explained, adding one to the pile. "That should be enough." She said about the books, and then "What's your family like?" She asked, taking a few of the books to the table to set them down, her mind always running in circles.

Sirius nodded lightly at what James was saying. "And what makes you think that?" he asked, glancing up at his friend before looking back down at his parchment, scribbling down a few more answers before pushing a hand through his hair, a small sigh escaping his lips. He leaned back in his chair, glancing once again towards James before scribbling down a few more answers.

"I've just got a feeling. We haven't talked much, but what little interaction we have had, she smiles a lot. And she blushed when I was talking to her in class. Last time I checked, girls don't blush when they hate you." He explained, pushing Peters finished homework towards him.
"Wow, that sounds lovely." Laila replied dreamily about his dads job. "I'm terribly sorry about your mum, though. I'm very sure she loves you." She added, opening a book to take notes from. She was silent for a while as she wrote, though a thousand other questions were still circling through her head. She just wanted to make sure she wasn't annoying him, so a break was probably nice.

Sirius nodded lightly. "I guess so." he said, glancing around his chair to look towards Evans. "So you like her now? No more torture for her?" he asked, jotting down the last couple of answers to his homework before setting it down, kicking his feet over the arm of the chair.

James shrugged, sighing lightly. "I think I've always liked her. Just didn't want to say it, incase I didn't have a chance." He admitted, staring into the fire. He did his best not to think of Scarlett during all of this Lily stuff, but how could he not? He really did not want to hurt her, at all. Ever. But he'd gotten himself involved with her. And if he ever wanted anything to happen with Lily, he would have to become uninvolved with her. He shook his head stressed, but smiled anyways, throwing Sirius a grin. "You should ask Scarlett out for me" he joked. "If she breaks it off with me, I'll be completely innocent."
